Markdown allows you to write using an easy-to-read, easy-to-write markup language that is saved in plain text format. It is often used as a lightweight text-to-HTML conversion tool for web writers.

Markdown's syntax is relatively easy to learn and apply, and gives structure to documents that is easily converted to structurally valid XHTML (or HTML).
